MK1 GTI Track car build page!
Hello Peeps!!
This is my newest project. I plan on stripping it to a bare shell and then doing a restoration/prepping for a track car with the option to convert it into a GTI Challenge car once I am not new to track days anymore.
A little history of the car:
This car was my brothers daily for many a year. He used to do the odd drag racing but it was mainly his daily driver. He sold it 2 years ago to my cousin who bought it for his SO as a present. Things didn't go as planned so they only stripped a couple of things from the car and started to touch the bodywork here and there. Well in short the car has been standing in this state for the last 2 years. So a couple of weeks ago my brother got a call from him saying the car is back up for sale since it most probably never will get finished, and he doesn't need the car anymore. As things turned out my brother was very keen at first, but after long thought he came to the conclusion that he is not into the scene that much anymore. He always knew I would love to get into the track/challenge scene, so he said I can buy the car if I wanted to.
As you guys can see the car has been in the family for many a year, and I plan on keeping it that way.
This is the start of my childhood dream, and I am looking forward to this new project with immense excitement. The main focus at the moment is to strip it to a bare shell and remove the rust and then paint it. Once that is done i'll start on the suspension/brakes and then send it off for rollcage fitment. And once that is done I'll sort out all the electrics and the engine. And then it is off to the track!
I took these 1st few pictures where the car has been standing for 2 years.
